I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006 with a degree in Political Science, Finance, and Economics. I stayed around Champaign for law school and graduated in 2009. I then worked at a big law firm in downtown Chicago. It was boring, so I quit in early 2011. I thought that I could not be happy practicing law - I was wrong. After I quit the traditional law firm life, I began representing my own clients. I realize now that I love helping normal people, small business owners, and non-profits address a variety of legal issues. I hope to hear from you.

I received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Northwestern University in 1996 and then got my JD at University of Illinois College of Law in 1999. I have been a lawyer helping people with legal issues in the United States and Internationally since then. That includes litigation as well as contracts/transactions. I am also passionate about helping small and medium businesses with trademark registration and trademark-related legal projects. The law can be confusing and complicated for people, and I am passionate about providing professional legal services to my clients while simultaneously making the legal process less confusing and stressful for them. My goal is to help clients navigate through both good and difficult times by tailoring my skills, experience, and services to their specific needs. I am currently licensed and authorized to practice before the Illinois courts and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Internationally I am one of a select few American attorneys licensed and authorized to practice before the United Nations ICTY/IRMCT, the International Criminal Court, and the State Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Clients have retained me internationally alongside local counsel in several European countries, Australia, and Africa in private legal matters. I have also been appointed by the United Nations to represent persons at the ICTY/IRMCT and chosen by indigent accused to represent them. Since 2009 my law firm has handled domestic and international cases, including Trial litigation (including Commercial, Premises Liability, Personal Injury, Criminal Defense, and General Litigation) and Transactional work (Contracts, Corporate formation, and Real Estate Transactions). I enjoy helping less experienced practitioners and students evolve and improve. I served as an instructor/lecturer on Oral Advocacy and Trial Practice for the participants of the ADC-ICT & ICLB Mock Trial since 2014, and have presented Advocacy Training lectures for the ADC-ICT on several topics as well as regularly lecturing to visiting University and Bar groups from around the world. If you or a loved one have a legal matter of importance, let's see if I can help you with it!

My name is Ryenne Shaw and I help business owners build businesses that operate as assets instead of liabilities, increase in value over time and build wealth. My areas of expertise include corporate formation and business structure, contract law, employment/labor law, business risk and compliance and intellectual property. I also serve as outside general counsel to several businesses across various industries nationally. I spent most of my early legal career assisting C.E.O.s, General Counsel, and in-house legal counsel of both large and smaller corporations in minimizing liability, protecting business assets and maximizing profits. While working with many of these entities, I realized that smaller entities are often underserved. I saw that smaller business owners weren’t receiving the same level of legal support larger corporations relied upon to grow and sustain. I knew this was a major contributor to the ceiling that most small businesses hit before they’ve even scratched the surface of their potential. And I knew at that moment that all of this lack of knowledge and support was creating a huge wealth gap. After over ten years of legal experience, I started my law firm to provide the legal support small to mid-sized business owners and entrepreneurs need to grow and protect their brands, businesses, and assets. I have a passion for helping small to mid-sized businesses and startups grow into wealth-building assets by leveraging the same legal strategies large corporations have used for years to create real wealth. I enjoy connecting with my clients, learning about their visions and identifying ways to protect and maximize the reach, value and impact of their businesses. I am a strong legal writer with extensive litigation experience, including both federal and state (and administratively), which brings another element to every contract I prepare and the overall counsel and value I provide. Some of my recent projects include: - Negotiating & Drafting Commercial Lease Agreements - Drafting Trademark Licensing Agreements - Drafting Ambassador and Influencer Agreements - Drafting Collaboration Agreements - Drafting Service Agreements for service-providers, coaches and consultants - Drafting Master Service Agreements and SOWs - Drafting Terms of Service and Privacy Policies - Preparing policies and procedures for businesses in highly regulated industries - Drafting Employee Handbooks, Standard Operations and Procedures (SOPs) manuals, employment agreements - Creating Employer-employee infrastructure to ensure business compliance with employment and labor laws - Drafting Independent Contractor Agreements and Non-Disclosure/Non-Competition/Non-Solicitation Agreements - Conducting Federal Trademark Searches and filing trademark applications - Preparing Trademark Opinion Letters after conducting appropriate legal research - Drafting Letters of Opinion for Small Business Loans - Drafting and Responding to Cease and Desist Letters I service clients throughout the United States across a broad range of industries.

My clients know me as more than just an attorney. First and foremost, my background is much broader than that. Prior to attending the Valparaiso University School of Law, I earned a Master of Business Administration and ran a small business as a certified public accountant. Thanks to this experience, I possess unique insight which in turn allows me to better assist my clients with a wide range of business and tax matters today. In total, I have over 20 years of experience in financial management, tax law, and business consulting, and I’m proud to say that I’m utilizing the knowledge I’ve gained to assist the community of Round Rock in a variety of ways. In my current practice, I provide counsel to small to medium-sized businesses, nonprofit organizations, and everyday individuals. Though my primary areas of practice are estate planning, elder law, business consulting, and tax planning, I pride myself on assisting my clients in a comprehensive manner. Whenever I take on a new client, I make an effort to get to know them on a personal level. This, of course, begins with listening. It is important that I fully understand their vision so I can help them successfully translate it into a concrete plan of action that meets their goals and expectations. I appreciate the individual attributes of each client and know firsthand that thoughtful, creative, and customized planning can maximize both financial security and personal happiness. During my time as a certified public accountant, I cultivated an invaluable skill set. After all, while my legal education has given me a deep understanding of tax law, I would not be the tax attorney I am today without my background in accounting. Due to my far-reaching experience, I am competent in unraveling even the most complex tax mysteries and disputes. My CPA training benefits my estate planning practice, too. In the process of drafting comprehensive wills and trusts, I carefully account for every asset and plan for any tax burdens that may arise, often facilitating a much smoother inheritance for the heirs of my clients. Prior to becoming certified as a CPA, I made sure to establish a solid foundation in business both in and out of the classroom, and the acumen I’ve attained has served me well. Not only am I better able to run my own practice than I otherwise would be; I am able to help other small business owners fulfill their dreams, as well.

Landlord Tenant

Tenant Rental Agreement

Illinois

Asked on Apr 15, 2022

I'm a landlord looking to add a lease clause that allows my tenant to break the lease if he/she covers all rent up until the start of the new tenant's lease. Can you help me?

I'm in Illinois and my current tenant would like to renew the lease but add this clause for flexibility to possibly purchase a house. We discussed that she will cover the rent up until the new tenant moves in.

Mathew K.

Answered Apr 19, 2022

I can draft this addendum to the lease. Please resubmit as a proposal so I can submit a bid at this link: https://www.contractscounsel.com/client/create-project/step-h1?cta=4.

Landlord Tenant

Rental Agreement

Florida

Asked on Oct 9, 2023

Rental agreement for multiple tenants?

I am a landlord of a residential property and I am looking for advice on the best way to structure a rental agreement for multiple tenants. The property is currently occupied by two tenants who wish to stay in the property, but I am considering adding a third tenant. I need advice on how to ensure that all parties are fully informed of their rights and obligations and that any potential disputes can be quickly and fairly resolved.

Diane D.

Answered Oct 17, 2023

You need to put all your terms and conditions in your agreement. You can use the same agreement for all three tenants, or more if you desire. Don't leave anything to supposition or make ambiguous statements. If you need further help, you can contact me here.

Residential Lease Agreement

Residential lease agreement and association rules?

I recently signed a residential lease agreement and have recently been made aware of association rules that may affect my rights and obligations as a tenant. I am concerned that these rules may conflict with the terms of my lease agreement and am seeking legal advice to ensure that I am aware of any potential issues that I may face.

Merry A.

Answered Sep 15, 2023

If you would like to request me through a project, I’d be happy to review all documents and WA State law and provide you with advice. It will be important to know whether or not you were informed that you will have to comply with the HOA rules at the time you signed the lease—many leases state the necessity to comply with HOA CC&R’s and/or Bylaws and/or rules as well as WA State law.

Can the tenant use the property for storage?

As a business owner, I am looking to rent a commercial property to use for storage purposes. However, I am unsure if the property's lease agreement allows for such use or if there are any restrictions in place. Therefore, I am seeking legal advice on whether I can use the property for storage and if there are any legal implications I should be aware of.

In order to advise you on the lease, you would have to have the lease reviewed so that the purposes for the lease can be established and discussed with you. Lesse must present o Lessor a copy of his/her military orders.

Nichole C.

Answered Mar 18, 2022

It is unclear what your exact question is. Unless illegal or unconconscionable, anything can be agreed to in a contract. Enforcing the agreement may require litigation. If you are asking if the clause is a valid one, it could be. If you are asking what to do if the landlord did not honor it, you may need to sue. If you are asking if this is standard and was not in the contract, the answer is no. You cannot assume it is. Hope this helps some. Contact me if you would like a consultation specifically on this issue.
