Lauren Acquaviva focuses her practice on alcohol licensing matters. Lauren has tried over one hundred tax and alcohol license cases at the South Carolina Administrative Law Court during her career. She also has handled appeals, including arguing before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court. A New Jersey native, Lauren graduated from Monmouth University Summa Cum Laude in 2009 with a B.S. in Social Work and a passion for advocating on behalf of children. Immediately thereafter, Lauren moved to South Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law from where she graduated in 2012 in the top third of her class. During law school Lauren became a member of the Mock Trial Bar where she honed her trial skills and fell in love with being in the court room. In September of 2012, shortly after graduating from law school with the desire to become a trial attorney, Lauren began working for the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SC DOR) where she spent six years litigating alcohol licensing and tax matters on behalf of the Department. Lauren left the SC DOR in October of 2018 and joined a Mount Pleasant Law firm. Ben is the founder of the Middleton Law Firm (2022). He has experience in the European Union and the United States. He interned with the University Rijeka, Croatia assisting businesses with trademark, Uniform Domain-Name Registry Dispute Registry, European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy law compliance, and International Comparative Copyright issues as the country itself prepared itself for European Union statehood. He worked with Michigan State University's Anti-Counterfeit and Product Protection (A-CAPP) Center to protect and enforce its intellectual property in foreign territories and moderated panel discussions with brand owners and U.S. Customs to curb counterfeit products. Attorney Skelly is a midwestern transplant from Iowa. She has been in Florida for the past 11 years. She went to undergrad at Buena Vista University, which is a small liberal arts college in Storm Lake, Iowa. After graduating with her Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, she went on to obtain her Master's degree in criminal justice from Kaplan university, which is now Purdue Global. While attending school full time for her Master’s degree, Attorney Skelly worked full time in social services helping children and their families who were involved in the dependency system. Attorney Skelly has a professional background in child welfare and social services having worked for 18 years in the field. Attorney Skelly always had a lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer and decided to fulfill her goal in May of 2019 by starting law school at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School at their Riverview campus. She did their accelerated program and completed law school in just over two years and graduated magna cum laude with honors. Attorney Skelly also received certificate of merit awards, which means attaining the highest grade in the class in secured transactions, research and writing, and family violence practice. While in law school Attorney Skelly was a teaching assistant to two tenured professors as well as a note taker for those students who had accommodations. She was also awarded the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Student Award. In her legal career, Attorney Skelly started out at the State Attorney’s Office in Fort Myers, FL. She helped prosecute several cases and personally worked as second chair on 9 jury trials and one bench trial.
