Each state in the US has labor laws. The federal Government has passed legislation that provides a floor for certain labor laws, but states are free to create better laws with more protection for workers. Here is a link to see the State Labor offices across the US.
Introduction to Federal Labor Laws
Federal legislation that was passed to establish rules for full- and part-time workers is called the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The FLSA applies to all employees of certain enterprises, regardless of duties they perform.
