Ryenne S.
My name is Ryenne Shaw and I help business owners build businesses that operate as assets instead of liabilities, increase in value over time and build wealth. My areas of expertise include corporate formation and business structure, contract law, employment/labor law, business risk and compliance and intellectual property. I also serve as outside general counsel to several businesses across various industries nationally. I spent most of my early legal career assisting C.E.O.s, General Counsel, and in-house legal counsel of both large and smaller corporations in minimizing liability, protecting business assets and maximizing profits. While working with many of these entities, I realized that smaller entities are often underserved. I saw that smaller business owners weren’t receiving the same level of legal support larger corporations relied upon to grow and sustain. I knew this was a major contributor to the ceiling that most small businesses hit before they’ve even scratched the surface of their potential. And I knew at that moment that all of this lack of knowledge and support was creating a huge wealth gap. After over ten years of legal experience, I started my law firm to provide the legal support small to mid-sized business owners and entrepreneurs need to grow and protect their brands, businesses, and assets. I have a passion for helping small to mid-sized businesses and startups grow into wealth-building assets by leveraging the same legal strategies large corporations have used for years to create real wealth. I enjoy connecting with my clients, learning about their visions and identifying ways to protect and maximize the reach, value and impact of their businesses. I am a strong legal writer with extensive litigation experience, including both federal and state (and administratively), which brings another element to every contract I prepare and the overall counsel and value I provide. Thanks for your feedback Ngoc. The scope of our project did not include unlimited revisions and support throughout the entire negotiation process. You specifically stated that you were only willing to pay for one round of revisions, and that you’d consider additional services at a later time, if necessary. Nonetheless, I still completed revisions based upon your additional negotiations with the Landlord, which were outside the scope of our engagement, as a courtesy to you. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide unlimited services without compensation for those additional services. Additionally, you sent me the Word document that contained formatting errors before I began revisions and told me that the Landlord was unwilling to provide a regular PDF that could be properly formatted and to do my best with what was provided (as reformatting would be ineffective). Nonetheless, thank you for your business.

"I asked if I could get clarification on something we talked about after the fact and before she would answer stated she would send me an invoice for either $450 or another $300 to discuss a contract we had already discussed. I just wanted clarification on a question we had during the zoom meeting we had discuseed but she wanted to charge me for another full review. Stating "our review ended the moment the zoom call ended". It also went over by a couple of minutes and she was rushing to get through it. I mean maybe that's a typical experience and I've just had really good experiences until now. Every other lawyer I've hired for all my contract reviews were so helpful esp with questions without paying them again. I just feel like you run your business how you want. I respect it. It's just not for me. I'll stick with the lawyers similar to those I've worked with in the past. It's my own mistake. She had a lot of good reviews so I was honestly surprised."

Instead, we were feverishly taking notes which didn’t leave us much time to consider her comments fully to ensure we understood. Additionally, it appeared to us as if she was reading the contract maybe for the second time word for word. It left us with the impression that perhaps there hadn’t been much preparation for our call. Finally, there was much confusion regarding the time of our call. She had agreed to my suggestion of 5:30 pm, but the call took place at 7 pm our time. Again, we appreciate her comments."

However, I was not aware that all the bid included is: 1 call for 1 round of review, and that created a bit of confusion between Ryenne and I. I was asked to pay more to have the points I added to the contract looked at by Ryenne. I explained my disappointment of how brief service was to Ryenne and she was very good at responding, and eventually answered all my questions without the extra fee. Most of all other bids included a contract review + additional review after changes (so 2 calls) + emails for that price. I explained to Ryenne that I thought that's what I signed up for. I appreciated her kindness and extra care. Lesson learnt for me to always inquire about the depth of service so I don't expect more than I pay for."

Home Purchase Agreement Review
"She reviewed agreement for first time, live in a zoom call. Just reading through super-fast, at such pace, they're obviously bound to miss lot of things. Additionally, they just reviewed 40 pages out of 68 pages purchase contract. While she was patient to answer questions, she was clearly not patient enough to go through entire doc, she just asked me to review the rest of 28 pages myself. Not satisfied with quality of service for price I've paid. I've got cheaper deals which quoted longer time, chosen an expensive one as she quoted lesser time. But not satisfied with quality of this service."

"I'm a demanding client with high attention to detail, and I have reviewed, drafted, and revised hundreds of contracts over my life. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the first revision of the agreement I drafted, which included inconsistent terminology and overlapping clauses. I was further disappointed when I learned that several items that I worked hard to incorporate into the initial version were ripped out, or, in one case, the meaning of a clause was flipped. I was disappointed when I had to be the one to point out loopholes, suggest fixes for these loopholes, and then implement the fixes myself. I was disappointed at having to repeatedly reiterate a revision that I wanted made, because my request was glossed over the first time I made it. Overall, although the project was on budget, and the lawyer was quite responsive, I cannot recommend this experience for anyone who has a high attention to detail and doesn't want to micromanage their lawyer."

The total project cost for reviewing a boilerplate independent contractor agreement was more than the hourly rate, but our meeting was about 30-minutes and I didn't feel as though she had prepared - reviewed the document prior to meeting, indicated areas that were red flags, etc. Neither was there any getting to know me, the services I provide my employer, or providing counsel on what contract language may put me at risk in that working relationship. Redlining and suggesting language to change the contract would have doubled the quoted project cost."
