In my thirteen years of practice, I've had the opportunity to argue cases in state, federal, and tribal courts; in subjects as diverse as gaming, land tenure, water rights, treaty rights, finance, employment, criminal defense, conflict of laws, and tort (among others). But the real value I brought my clients came through avoiding litigation, fostering relationships, and developing long-term strategies.

I began my career with the U.S. Senate Energy Committee, where I gained insights into regulatory frameworks and the legislative processes. Following that, I honed my skills as a law clerk and prosecutor, providing me with a solid foundation in litigation and public service. My time working at reputable law firms focused on commercial litigation and criminal defense and has equipped me with the tools to navigate complex legal disputes effectively. Additionally, I worked as US Legal Counsel to an international energy corporation which has given me a unique perspective on the legal challenges faced by businesses today. This multifaceted experience allows me to offer clients comprehensive legal solutions tailored to their specific needs. I am fluent in Spanish.

My main focus is estate planning and business transactions, but I have had many practice areas throughout my career, including criminal defense and prosecution, civil litigation from neighborhood squabbles to corporate contentions. I have also worked in bankruptcy, family law, collections, employment law, and personal injury. I stand ready to assist in any area to which I feel I can be of service, but will not try to fake it if I do not know the area of law I am being asked to serve in.

Fee Agreement
California
Do I need to provide my personal and assets info to an estate planning attorney before signing a fee agreement so they can begin prepping a living trust
Looking for an estate planning attorney to prep a living trust and all other necessary docs
Jane C.
No. You do not need to provide any information until you agree to work with the attorney.

Revoking power attorney

Typically anything written which indicates you are revoking it should be sufficient. It should be delivered to your agent. I would also deliver it to any banks or other places where your agent may use the POA.

Last Will and Testament
Illinois
How often should I review and update my will?
I am asking this question because I want to ensure that my will is up-to-date and reflects any changes in my life circumstances, such as marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or changes in my financial situation. I am also interested in understanding how frequently I should review and update my will to ensure that my assets are distributed according to my wishes in the event of my death.
Talin H.
You basically just answered your question. You should review and update your will whenever a major life event happens that might influence how your assets are distributed in the will. The rule of thumb is the addition or subtraction of a family member, or addition, or subtraction of a major asset like a home purchase.

Power of Attorney
Michigan
How can wife get power attorney from sibling for mother?
My wife is trying to get power of attorney for her mom from her sister that only wants her money and now we have her mom and her sister is keeping her I’d and birth certificate so she has no control of her money gave her a bank card with no pin and no I’d so she can’t go to the bank and get her money
George B.
Generally, if a person is competent, he or she can revoke a power of attorney at any time and execute a new one in favor of someone else. Every individual/business that is aware of the previous power of attorney will need to be notified that it has been revoked and given the updated power of attorney. However, if a person has any conditions that may be impairing mental functions, it may be necessary to petition the court for guardianship/conservatorship. Both of these scenarios can get complicated incredibly fast, and you should consult with a lawyer in either situation.

Settlement And Release Agreement
Pennsylvania
Must I sign a family settlement release for my fathers estate in PA in order for the executor to distribute monies?
My fathers exectutor is ready to finalize the estate bank account and I received a "release" letter, must I sign it before money is distributed? (PA)
Ryan W.
In Pennsylvania, probate estates are wrapped up after the executor provides the beneficiaries with an accounting. The purpose is for the beneficiaries to review what the executor did during the administration of the estate and have the opportunity to voice any objections he or she may have. The release that you received is fairly standard in the estate administration process. You are not required to sign the document. The estate can also be finalized by requesting an order of distribution from a judge. If you do not happen to take issue with anything the executor did, signing the release agreement will likely be more efficient.
Quick, user friendly and one of the better ways I've come across to get ahold of lawyers willing to take new clients.
