I am Muhammad Yar Lak, a New York-licensed technology attorney with extensive experience advising startups, founders, growing businesses, established companies (including Fortune 100 clients), and individuals on the legal matters that shape how they operate, grow, and protect what they have built. My practice covers business relationships, operational and contractual risk, and corporate structure, including the formation and structuring of LLCs and corporations. I hold a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and am admitted to practice in New York. I am also CIPP/US certified, reflecting my commitment to privacy and data as core concerns in modern business and technology law. I practice as a Senior Associate with Gogo & Moore, a technology-focused law firm with offices in Aspen, Atlanta, and New York. I have built my practice around the industries defining the next decade, including technology, fintech, artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital assets, and e-commerce, while also serving clients in healthcare, manufacturing, real estate, and entertainment. I am a lawyer who helps small businesses, nonprofits, and startups with a wide variety of agreements, corporate formation, and corporate governance. ​ I earned my BA from Tulane University and my JD from the University of Chicago Law School. Before starting my own practice, I worked at an international law firm in New York City. ​ Outside of work, I am on the board of the nonprofit Seattle REconomy (which runs the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries) and I enjoy gardening, baking bread, and outdoor activities with my spouse and two dogs.

I enjoy helping businesses of all sizes succeed, from start-ups to existing small and medium sized businesses. I regularly advise corporate clients on a variety of legal issues including formation, day to day governance, reviewing and drafting business contracts and other agreements, business acquisitions and sales, as well as commercial and residential real estate issues, including sales, purchases and leases. As an attorney licensed in both Michigan and Florida, I also advise clients on real estate issues affecting businesses and individuals owning real property in either state, whether commercial, residential or vacation/investment property. I also regularly assist nonprofit organizations in obtaining and maintaining tax exempt status, and provide general legal counsel on all matters affecting public charities, private foundations and other nonprofit organizations.

My career experience has been varied. Although litigation has been a central focus, I’ve served as Of Counsel for a franchise law firm, negotiating contracts with franchisees and vendors to ensure the best terms possible for my client. I have demonstrated acumen in leading and supervising the work of others. As an associate attorney for Shulman Rogers, I oversaw the Summer Intern Program. Throughout my career I directed the work of paralegals and legal receptionists. As a solo practitioner I employed a junior attorney. At each phase I was responsible for the work and performance of another. In my transactional practice I regularly advise clients on agreements, negotiate favorable terms on their behalf, draft agreements, interpret contractual provisions in disputes, provide opinion letters, and represent clients in mediation and arbitration. I’m accustomed to working in high stress, high stakes environments with quick deadlines, demanding and often emotional clients, while performing work that requires great detail, accuracy, and advocacy.
