What is a Sponsorship Agreement Template?

A sponsorship agreement template is a pre-formatted legally enforceable document that outlines the terms and conditions between a sponsor and an event organizer or individual. These legal contracts typically address the scope of the sponsorship, how long it lasts for, payment details, and obligations of both parties.

Given these are contract templates, this means a lawyer has drafted the agreement and left important fields to be filled in when the sponsorship agreement needs to be used. These fields include:

  • Date of agreement
  • Company name
  • Sponsor name
  • Sponsorship fee
  • Description of business, products, and services
  • Sponsor obligations

What Are the Different Types of Sponsorship Agreement Templates?

There are four main types of sponsorship agreement templates for sale. These include:

  • Financial Sponsorship Agreement.
  • Promotional Sponsorship Agreement.
  • Event Sponsorship Agreement.
  • In-Kind Sponsorship Agreement.

Financial Sponsorship Agreement

A financial sponsorship agreement is a legal contract between a sponsor and a beneficiary (i.e., party receiving the sponsorship fee) where the sponsor pays a sponsorship fee to receive some sort of benefit(s) related to an event, program, project, or other type of activity. The sponsor will typically be paying to receive some sort of advertising, brand exposure, or other perks. The contract governs the terms of the sponsorship.

Promotional Sponsorship Agreement

A promotional sponsorship agreement is a contract between a sponsor and another party where the sponsor provides financial or in-kind (i.e. business services, etc.) support in exchange for promotional benefits. The contract governs the terms of the agreement. These benefits can come in the form of brand exposure, joint advertising efforts, or other promotional activities for the sponsor.

Event Sponsorship Agreement

An event sponsorship agreement is a contract between a sponsor and an event organizer, where the sponsor provides financial support to the event organizer in exchange for brand exposure or advertising. You probably have seen events being sponsored by different brands, and this type of agreement has been made between that event organizer and the brand.

In-Kind Sponsorship Agreement

An in-kind sponsorship agreement is a legal contract between a sponsor and another party where the sponsor provides goods or services in exchange for promotional benefits. What makes an in-kind sponsorship different is that the sponsor is not providing financial support, rather they are providing goods and services in exchange for benefits.

For example, a catering company may sponsor an event by providing food, kitchen staff, and kitchen equipment in exchange for brand exposure.

What Are the Important Terms Included in a Sponsorship Agreement?

Depending on the type of sponsorship agreement, terms can vary. However, below are some common and important terms you will find in a sponsorship agreement template:

  • Sponsorship Fee. This section outlines the fee the sponsor will pay to the other party in exchange for promotional efforts.
  • Sponsor Obligations. This section outlines the obligations of the sponsor under the agreement. For example, the sponsor may need to provide the beneficiary with marketing collateral.
  • Beneficiary Obligations. This section outlines the obligations of the beneficiary under the agreement. For example, this may require the beneficiary showcase marketing collateral of the sponsor.
  • License Grants. This section grants a license to use intellectual property of either party in the agreement. For example, anything that may be trademarked by one party is allowed to be used by the other.
  • Term and Termination. This section governs the length of the sponsorship and how the agreement can be terminated by either party.

How To Fill Out a Sponsorship Agreement Template

Here is a step by step guide to filling out a sponsorship agreement template.

Step 1: Parties, Date

The first step will be to fill in the date of the agreement being made, and then fill in the legal name of the Sponsor and the legal name of the Beneficiary (company receiving sponsorship).

Step 2: Description of Business, Products, and Services

The next step is to fill out a brief description of the business, product, or service of the beneficiary (party receiving the sponsorship). This essentially describes what the business does, so it is clearly outlined in the agreement.

Step 3: Dispute Resolution, Choice of Law

The next step is to fill out the fees to be paid by the sponsor and any payment schedules or additional payment terms. This is essentially where you make clear what the financial or in-kind support is to be provided by the sponsor.

Step 4: Exhibit A; Sponsorship Fee/In-Kind Sponsorship/Obligations

The next step is to fill out Exhibit A, which will outline things like Sponsorship Fee, In-Kind Sponsorship, and Obligations. This is where you describe the payment or other support being provided by the Sponsor, and the obligations or both the Sponsor and Event Organizer/Beneficiary.

Step 5: Signature Section

For the signature section, you will want to add the full legal names of both parties so you can prepare the document for signature.

"Daehoon reviewed my Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for a consumer mobile app with NFC-enabled physical merchandise and e-commerce. I came in with polished drafts already vetted against the codebase — so this was a review engagement, not drafting from scratch. The quality of his analysis stood out immediately. His proposal was the only one that flagged specific technical nuances about my product before I even hired him — like the distinction between service-provider and third-party framing under CCPA, and that city-level location data still triggers most state privacy frameworks. That level of attention carried through to the deliverables. He returned redlined versions of both documents plus a detailed decision-items list covering everything from DMCA counter-notification gaps to pseudonymous data classification under state privacy laws. His terminology change from "anonymized" to "pseudonymous" for analytics data was the kind of precise, substantive catch that actually changes how you architect your deletion pipeline — not just cosmetic legal polish. Communication was straightforward and professional. Would hire again for future legal doc work."

"Lori was exactly what I needed as a solo cybersecurity consultant building my first client-facing service agreement from scratch. She reviewed a 6-page technical services contract covering Microsoft 365 security assessments, retainer services, credential handling, and liability protections and came back with eight specific, actionable recommendations that genuinely strengthened the document. What impressed me most was the quality of her feedback. She did not just flag issues, she explained why each change mattered and provided exact protective language I could implement immediately. Her additions around the limitation of liability cap, indemnification, No Duty to Monitor, Risk Acceptance, and No Third-Party Beneficiaries were exactly right for a solo operator in the cybersecurity space. She was responsive, professional, and confirmed the final version fully incorporated every recommendation with the language placed correctly. For a flat fee this was exceptional value. I will be using Lori for all future legal work on this business. Highly recommend for any solo consultant or small business owner who needs a serious contract review done right."
