What is a Content Licensing Agreement?

A content licensing agreement (CLA) is a contract between the creator of the content and another party, granting use of the content in exchange for payment. A license can be granted automatically or as part of a larger business transaction such as buying an enterprise software package, publishing a book, or hiring someone to write something for you.

A typical content licensing agreement will specify how much money will change hands and what rights are being sold. It may also include requirements that need to be met by both parties (such as reporting on usage).

Content licensing agreements are becoming more widely used given the growth of the internet and digital content.
