I have been practicing law exclusively in the areas of business and real estate transactions since joining the profession in 2003. I began my career in the Corporate/Finance department of Sidley's Los Angeles office. I am presently a solo practitioner/freelancer, and service both business- and attorney-clients in those roles.

I graduated from Yale University magna cum laude, served as a Fulbright Scholar in Italy and attended UC Berkeley School of Law. In 2023, I was named a "Legal Visionary" by the Los Angeles Times. I started my legal career in Silicon Valley and Hong Kong working on large equity and debt financings and matters for private wealth clients. After returning home to Los Angeles, I advised startup companies with formations, acquisitions and day-to-day matters such as sales contracts and licensing. More recently, I have focused on data, IT and SaaS contracts for both providers and customers. My clients include NASDAQ-listed companies, a top ranked children’s hospital and local startups.

With nearly 20 years’ experience as a seasoned commercial real estate attorney, I am highly proficient in property acquisitions, financing, sales and transfers (including renewable energy and telecommunications projects), commercial lease agreements (office, industrial, retail, and hospitality), construction and property management contracts, due diligence matters, title and survey analysis, strategic litigation oversight, and corporate and regulatory compliance (operating agreements, bylaws, shareholder agreements, NDAs, and indemnity agreements).

I have been a litigator in state and federal jurisdictions throughout the United States for the past 15 years, save for an eight-month stint as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for a credit card processing company. David M. Abner is a practicing attorney with over 30 years of experience representing clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies in California and Texas.
