Project Description

In 2026, a personal client in California posted a project seeking assistance with reviewing their living trust. The client recently sold their family business through seller financing, creating an arrangement with the buyer who makes payments over time via a promissory note. They wanted to ensure that the existing revocable living trust adequately addresses the succession of this financial arrangement. As a result, the client received six proposals from licensed attorneys, with flat fee bids ranging from $500 to $2,000, all submitted to complete the work within the requested deadline of one week.

Hi. I'm not sure I understand your question. Everyone should have a will regardless of whether you have a trust. The question is whether you need a trust. A lot of that has to do with avoiding probate or some other potential uses depending on the goals and needs. But a typical family would use a trust to better organize everything and control distribution while avoiding going through the court process called probate.
