If a new company takes over my wedding venue is my original contract still valid at all?
Contracts
Venue Rental Agreement
Wisconsin
I originally signed a contract months ago for my wedding venue. The venue was free as long as a $5,000 catering minimum was hit. Now a new company took over the venue and they are charging $3000 to use the venue not including catering and regardless of any food and beverage minimum. Needless to say this is about $3000 more than I was anticipating to spend. Is this legal?
Robert A.
I know people hate this answer from attorneys, but it depends on the wording of the contract and the specific facts of the situation. Most contracts will have a clause governing assignment of the contract to a third party. That clause will determine if the terms of the original contract are assignable to the new company operating the venue. If the contract is not assignable, or if the original operator decided not to assign the contract to the new operator, then you will have a new agreement with the new operator. Most contracts will also have a clause governing how the terms of the contract can be changed. If you would like a review of your situation and your contract, you can request a proposal for a review session. I generally do those at a flat fee, based on the length of the contract. I'm sure other attorneys would offer similar rates.

Had a heating/cooling company come look at furnace, no heat. The person gave diagnostic quote of $120. He came the next day did his diagnostic and then just went on with the repair and parts replacement. I had to leave for work but told my sister to stay around. Until I saw the invoice, just say I'm better off buying a new furnace at this point.

The Company was required to seek your permission to continue with repairs that would go beyond any estimated rate given. This is the protocol filed by repairmen for automobiles and other appliance protocols. The repairman had a legal duty to report the estimated costs of repair after your diagnostic testing, and you are protected under federal and Wisconsin consumer protection laws

Hello my name is Nezar, immigrant I left the last year 2020, the college always sends me letters in the mailbox and I always think that when I receive the mail every time they are wrong from the main office but I did not think that I will pay the fees, the delay because I dropped the courses late last year, the second semester and then I talked to them and they told me that I took the courses late after about a month and that I have to pay the late fee, and then I understood that the privacy policy is like this?
Sarah D.
Dear Nezar, Most universities and technical colleges have a date by which you must drop a class without incurring the charges for the class--it's called a drop window. Usually that is a 2-4 week period. If you took classes and dropped them late in the semester, it was probably after the drop window for the school. I suggest reviewing the school's policy on dropping classes and trying to speak to someone in authority about negotiating a lower payment or explaining that you did not understand the drop window policy. If you need assistance in negotiating with the school, I am happy to write a letter or advocate on your behalf a settlement. Thanks, Attorney Sarah DeBruin, One Law Group SC, Green Bay, WI, sdebruin@onelawgroupsc.com and phone 920-330-9208.

I signed a Promissory Note for $11,200 months ago and have not received the funds, what can I do?

I was approved for and signed Promissory Note with Creditbench/First Home Bank for an $11,200 PPP loan in May, 2021 & am Currently listed with the SBA as owing said $11,200 stating 'Disbursed Current', but I have Not been funded months later
Donya G.
My advise is to continue to contact the bank and ask about the funds; try to speak with someone with authority like a manager or supervisor. From my personal dealings with PPP loans and the response time to get an answer, I understand there can be delays but this is a long time and they are listing the funds as disbursed so there is an issue somewhere. Also, get an email address where you can submit an inquiry regarding the funds. If you need additional help, you can reach out to me on the platform. All the best, Donya Gordon
