What is an Acceptable Use Agreement?
An acceptable use agreement is a contract between a corporate network owner and a user that governs the rules a user must follow to access the network. The contract states who the parties are, what their obligations are under the contract, and how long the contract remains in effect. The primary goal of the acceptable use agreement, though, is to ensure that users understand what they are and are not permitted to do while using the corporate network.
The acceptable use agreement is useful to corporate network owners since it allows them to hold users who violate the agreement accountable for their actions. It also helps users to protect themselves from legal recourse by informing them of expectations.
