What is a Classroom Agreement?
A classroom agreement is an agreement that describes how students will to work together in a classroom and includes certain rights, such as respect. This agreement may include expectations of what being respectful entails and how to be respectful, and taking turns. Deciding in advance how a workgroup will work together and making the classroom a safer place becomes a shared responsibility of the classroom or work group with the classroom agreement.
Students' exchange of ideas on providing a productive and equitable learning environment also helps them express their needs. Students are given shared responsibility when creating a classroom agreement, thereby encouraging students to participate in the learning process.
