What is Debt-to-Income Ratio?
Your debt-to-income (also known as DTI) compares your monthly debt expenses, such as car loan payments, to your monthly income. Keep in mind that lenders, such as banks, may look at your DTI ratio along with your credit reports as well as credit scores when weighing your credit application.
Banks, credit unions, and other lenders study and assess how much debt you can take on before you are likely to begin having financial difficulties. They use that knowledge in order to set lending amounts and make decisions on mortgage notes .
