What is Dark Fiber?
Dark fiber or unlit fiber refers to the unused and laid optimal fiber. Since fiber optic wire transmits data in light purses, the dark term refers to light purses that are not transmitted. You can avail dark fiber optic services from LECs (local exchange carriers) and maintain your optimal fiber transmission of multiple locations.
Throughout the U.S., there are dark fiber cables that span thousands of miles. Dark fiber ultimately is a managed wavelength of multiplexed dark fibers that signal beam signals to other fiber providers to ensure optimal management.
