What is a Staggered Board?
When a new startup company is established, a group of people called a board of directors is appointed to make company decisions together. Startups that want to prevent a hostile takeover bid will often implement a staggered board. This splits a board of directors up into three to five categories, which each director having a pre-determined amount of time that they will serve.
