What is a golden parachute?
Note that a golden parachute is a clause in severance contracts that provides a top executive with a substantial or lucrative package on termination. Some of the benefits include cash bonuses, severance pay, and stock options.
A golden parachute is usually a contract with key executives in a company and is often used as a type of anti-takeover measure in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A).
