What is the hockey stick effect?
The hockey stick effect is a period of rapid growth, often followed by no or little growth. The hockey stick effect or growth is characterized by either a sharp fall or rise of data points following a long flat period. For example, a hockey stick can represent a start-up company that is extremely successful initially and remains stable afterward.
Note that the line connecting the data points is similar to or resembles a hockey stick.
