What is a Rollup?
A rollup refers to the process a startup takes to acquire and merge together with a number of smaller companies in the same niche. A rollup can be sought out for a few different reasons, but some of the most common include to increase the valuation of the company or to ensure success in markets where multiple similar startups are in business but there is only room for a select few to become successful.
Rollup Examples
Examples of a rollup:
- Example 1. A grocery store chain finds a market in a state where there are three small grocery stores in the area, but no major establishments. They decide to acquire and merge all three stores and move their storefront to the area, making four locations. The increased revenue and brand awareness drives up the price of their stock.
